TikTok Ads Setup

How to create a TikTok advertising account

A clean, step-by-step walkthrough of TikTok Ads Manager and Business Center, sourced directly from TikTok's official Help Center. About 10 minutes to complete.

    Open TikTok Ads Manager

Verified against the TikTok for Business Help Center (ads.tiktok.com/help). TikTok updates flows periodically — always cross-check the official articles linked below.

    Setup time

    ~10 minutes

    Account review

    Usually under 24 hours

    Verification

    Up to 2 business days

Get these right the first time

These settings are locked once your ad account is created. Changing them later means opening a new account.

    • Country / Region

Sets your regulatory environment, ad formats, and payment options. Very difficult to change.

    • Currency

All billing and reporting. Cannot be changed after creation.

    • Time Zone

Controls scheduling, budget resets, and reporting windows.

    • Legal Business Name

Must match your verification document exactly to avoid re-review.

01Create your TikTok for Business login

Start at the official self-serve sign-up page. If a TikTok rep sent you a link, use that one — it preconfigures your account.

    1. 1Go to ads.tiktok.com/i18n/signup and register with an email or phone number.
    2. 2Set a password, accept the TikTok Terms & Conditions, then enter the verification code sent to your email or phone.
    3. 3On the next screen you'll be prompted to create your Advertiser Account — this is where the irreversible settings live.

    Choose carefully

Country, currency, and time zone are locked once you click Register. If you're a US business, do not pick another region just because you're targeting it.

02Fill in your Advertiser Account details

    1. 1Country or Region — set to where your business is legally registered.
    2. 2Industry — used to surface relevant ad recommendations.
    3. 3Legal Business Name — must match your business license or registration document exactly.
    4. 4Time Zone — typically the primary market you advertise in.
    5. 5Currency — match your payment card and accounting currency.
    6. 6Phone Number — used for account optimization support.
After clicking Register, your account is created but pending approval. You can build campaigns immediately; ads won't deliver until approval comes through (usually within 24 hours).

03Set up a TikTok Business Center

Business Center (business.tiktok.com) is TikTok's hub for managing multiple ad accounts, team members, agency partners, and the creative library. Strongly recommended even for solo advertisers — it separates account ownership from individual logins.

    1. 1Go to business.tiktok.com and sign in (or sign up).
    2. 2Choose "I am an advertiser" — this lets you also create your first ad account in the same flow.
    3. 3Enter your country, full legal company name, and Business Center name (keep these consistent).
    4. 4Confirm time zone and currency are correct, then click Create.
    5. 5Enable 2-Step Verification when prompted — do not skip this.
Business Center details may not be changeable later. Each user login can create up to 30 Business Centers.

    04Verify your business

Verification authenticates your business identity and directly impacts your ability to run ads. Review takes up to 2 business days.

    1. 1In Ads Manager: Tools → Account Setup → Settings → Verify Now.
    2. 2Or in Business Center: Verification (left menu) → Verify Now.
    3. 3Select your entity type, country, and business name; upload an acceptable document and certificate number.
    4. 4Submit and wait for status to flip from Pending to Verified.
    • Accepted formats: JPEG, PNG, JPG, PDF — max 10 MB.
    • All four corners visible, color copy (except US, China, Australia where B&W is fine).
    • Document must not be expired or expiring within 30 days.
    • No watermarks, no duplicate copies, no third-party stamps.
    • Mismatches between legal name and document are the #1 cause of rejection.

    05Add a payment method

You'll need a valid payment method before ads can deliver. TikTok offers three billing models.

    • Manual (pre-pay): top up a cash balance before campaigns run. Best for tight budget control and testing.
    • Automatic (post-pay): TikTok charges your card when you hit a threshold or on your bill date — threshold starts low and increases with spend.
    • Monthly invoicing: credit line for high-spend advertisers, arranged via a TikTok rep.

    Add the payment method here

Ads Manager or Business Center → Billing (or Finance in Business Center) → Add Payment Method.

06Create an ad account inside Business Center

Ad accounts created inside a Business Center are owned by the Business Center, not your personal login — which is what you want for safe access delegation.

    1. 1In Business Center, go to Accounts → Advertiser Accounts.
    2. 2Click Add Advertiser Account → Create New → Next.
    3. 3Fill in Account Name, Time Zone, and Contact Information.
    4. 4Confirm payment settings and (optionally) link a TikTok account.
Each Business Center has a default cap on ad account count. Reusing a previously verified legal entity certificate auto-approves new ad accounts — useful for agencies.

07Create a Pixel object in Events Manager (object only)

GhostEngine handles all browser-side tracking and server-side Events API delivery for you. You only need a Pixel object to exist on your TikTok advertiser — no code to install, no Events API setup, no access token to generate.

    1. 1In Ads Manager: Tools → Events → Web Events → Create Pixel.
    2. 2Give the pixel a name (e.g., your brand name). Skip every installation option — manual code, partner integrations, GTM — close the install screen when prompted.
    3. 3Skip the Events API setup screen. Do not generate an access token.
    4. 4That's it. When you connect TikTok to GhostEngine, this pixel will be selected automatically.
Why object-only? GhostEngine's pixel loads the TikTok pixel in the browser and forwards server-side events through your OAuth connection. A separate Events API integration would double-count conversions and break optimization.

    Common pitfalls to avoid

    Region is effectively permanent

Your country selection at signup determines available formats, payment methods, and targeting. Switching means a brand-new account.

    Currency cannot be changed

Pick what matches your card and accounting, not your audience's currency.

    Time zone is locked

It controls scheduling, budget resets, and reporting. Use your primary market's time zone.

Business Center limit (30 per user)

Each TikTok for Business login can create at most 30 Business Centers.

    Verification documents

All four corners visible, color, unexpired, no watermarks. Legal name must match exactly.

    Connecting before billing is verified

If your payment method is still pending when GhostEngine tries to launch a campaign, delivery will be blocked. Add and verify the card first.

Single point of failure on access

Keep at least two admins in Business Center, separate from the user who connects GhostEngine, so you never lose control of the ad account.

    Best practices

Set up the right way from day one

    • Set up Business Center on day one, even as a solo advertiser. It future-proofs ownership and makes delegating access to GhostEngine cleaner.
    • Match your legal business name to your verification document character for character.
    • Enable 2-Step Verification immediately after creating your Business Center.
    • Create your TikTok Pixel object before connecting to GhostEngine. That is all the pixel setup you need.
    • Add a payment method and let TikTok verify it before connecting to GhostEngine, so campaigns can launch without a billing block.
    • Use a business email as the Business Center owner. Personal email addresses get flagged on review more often.
    • Keep your admin login in Business Center even after granting GhostEngine access, so you can re-authorize OAuth without recreating assets.
    Skip the setup
